Ice, Ice Baby

I give my fellow ADK'ers a shout out here:

Yesterday they started to build the Ice Palace!!!!

They are doing it differently this year since the theme is Pirates of the Adirondacks.

This will be a ship.

These are the folks out there this morning at 8:30 cleaning off the ice.
They said the ice is 14 inches thick!!

Pending Doom

This weekend, again like the two weekends before, we're fore casted to have really cold temps. Neg 20 or so. Winter Carnival hasn't even happened yet and I'm already fed up with the cold. However, winter has a formula:

Below Zero Temps = Less Snow
20-30 Above Zero = Snow and lots of it!

This is my own personal observation. Is it true? Yes. Do I have facts to back it up? Yes - look at the thermometer. Am I right? Of course! As I could be complaining all about the nasty dirty salt filled snow everywhere, I'm complaining about the cold. Frigid cold.

So, what does one do in this type of cold, yet again, this weekend? I've totally run out of ideas since my "great" ideas of cleaning the house and organizing my clutter is SO last week. So what if I didn't actually accomplish anyof these tasks. But I need new bigger, better and warmer ideas.

What are you doing this weekend? Let me take your ideas and make 'em mine! I'll totally give you credit!

Winter is More than Cold

That's right - sure we get cold (actually, freezing) and snow but can you guess what else??

Car problems - HURRAY! Since last week when it was -20-something, my car is rather upset at me. And, I don't blame it. A few years ago I got a automatic car starter from Santa Hub (well, Per-Hub Santa) and LOVED it! It was really a gift for both of us since this got him out of starting it for me.

Last week when it was negative frigid I was going through my normal morning routine of getting everything together, get my baby dressed, lunches, shoes, hats and my coffee. I pushed the start button and walked away thinking it'd start like always and continued to get myself and my baby ready to brave the cold. Lesson: Always isn't forever. My more car didn't start! So, I, like many other folks would do, pointed the button, outstretched my arm aiming it directly at the car and PRESSED the button for 30 seconds. Nothing. Not even an attempt to start.

Bum deal. Fine, stupid car - don't start. I'll just start it old-fashion like - with the key.

It chugged, reluctantly, started. But now my doors lock and unlock sporadically. It no longer toots when I lock it or unlock it. And, now that we're having a warm spell (20 above!), it still won't start via button.

I am not car savvy, if you weren't aware. It was a good 2-3 years that I didn't pump gas or do anything besides start car, change CD's, adjust mirrors and bring it to the garage every 3-4 months for it's "loving" - car wash, oil change and anything else. So, do you think it's my car battery?

CCCCOOOOLLLLLLLDDDddddddddd

This morning at 8am. AND this is on my porch. At the airport (about a mile away), they reported -28.

My poor car. I love her but she didn't want to start. Can't blame her since I too had a problem actually starting my day this morning. Just too dang cold to do much.

But, he looks happy about it...

Still all warm in his footie jammies! Can't get too much better than this!

Winter Freeze

Are you aware of the Artic air blasting this area? You're not??

It was -8 this morning at my house and within 2 hours, it dropped to -10. A town away, it was -17. Tomorrow, as can tell from the above forecast, isn't supposed to be any warmer. I'm actually wearing long underwear and my Ugg boots at work - just too cold to take anything off. I'd probably be wearing my mittens if I could!

Many of you are probably wondering what I'm doing living here and how do I survive this cold? It's not really THAT bad. Yeah, my car chugged to a start this morning. And my snot froze instantly when I stepped outside. But, the sky is a beautiful BLUE - See:

I can't complain! My friend City Mouse (here) is wondering if I have any stories to report. None so far today. But the day is still early. I'm pretty sure someone will wonder into my place of employment and we'll discuss the weather. But I have seen someone side-checking hockey style their driver side door of their car since it was obviously frozen shut.

I really love when it's this cold. Why? Because there's no wind, no snow - nothing but cold, crisp air. The whole reason why people flocked to this area to begin with. I enjoy listening to the trees creak from the sap being frozen. Plus, everyone moves at a slower pace ...maybe because they are partially frozen too.

Stay Warm!

Toys

Since all the fan-fare of The Holidays are over (thankfully), I'd like to post this:

This is my son, eating a cucumber, in a box. Notice all the toys behind him - INCLUDING a tent with tunnels.

This box has given this kid a place to eat, play, hide, it's been a sled, a basket to place his toys in and a step. Yes, I caught him ON TOP of the box! I would have grabbed a camera if I wasn't so darn overprotective of his actions.

Actually, it's gravity that makes me overprotective. And he has such a cute face. He'd be in a bubble is I thought I'd be able to get away with it.
